A care package can be a powerful reminder of love and support. Whether it’s for a college student facing the pressures of campus life or families needing a little extra help, packing a thoughtful mixture of personal hygiene items and laundry essentials can provide both practical help and emotional comfort. Here’s how we craft a care package that really makes an impact.

Essential Personal Hygiene Items

Don’t underestimate the importance of personal hygiene items in a care package. By including body wash or soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, mouth wash, feminine hygiene products, lip balm, and lotion in our care packages, we ease the daily routine of these busy individuals. These items may seem simple, but they can significantly improve someone’s day-to-day life, making them feel fresh, clean, and confident.

Laundry Essentials

While laundry items might not be the first thought, they are certainly necessary. We include a bottle of laundry detergent or easy-to-use pods, which eliminate the guesswork in measuring. Brands like Tide and Arm & Hammer offer options that are budget-friendly, which is important for our small non-profit organization.

Occasionally, we may provide fabric softener sheets and/or bleach to enhance the laundry experience, ensuring that our recipients have fresh, cozy clothes that look & smell great. Fabrics like cotton can feel stiff without proper treatment.

Baby Essentials

Considering the stress parents often experience with purchasing basic necessities, our organization also includes diapers & wipes in our care packages for families with young children. As funds permit, our organization may also provide formula to families with babies one year or younger.

Classroom Essentials

As funds allow, classroom supplies are provided to ensure success in the classroom. Teachers may also request these supplies for their classroom. Note that supplies are limited and may not be available throughout the year.

Clothing Essentials

Based on donor contributions, our clothing closet consists of new & gentled used items including clothing, coats, jackets, socks, and shoes. All items are laundered or sanitized prior to packaging. We accept clothing donations that are clean and free of stains and rips. Underwear, socks, and bras must be new.

Notes for an Extra Touch

Adding a personal touch, like a heartfelt note, transforms the care package from just practical items to a true expression of compassion. For instance, a simple message saying “Thinking of you!” can brighten someone’s day significantly. We are trying to be more intentional with providing these notes and would love for our community to become more involved. Crafting a thoughtful care package involves reviewing the items that the recipient has expressed they need and searching our inventory for all available items. From time to time, items may be unavailable, but we do our best to provide as many items as possible to create a well-rounded package that meets their needs.
